a little about me

I have been interested in both literature and language from a young age, alongside the psychology of the human brain and how we interact with others. Throughout my childhood and my early adulthood, I struggled not knowing why I was different to many of my peers. My love of literature enabled me to explore all the different eventualities in stories, plays and poems, which was perfect given my experience of autism, where I have a desire to understand every perspective. As I grew the books and poems changed to people in society and as individuals, and I realised the impact language has on the human brain. Regardless of my intention, my brain always defaults to a psychoanalytical perspective. To me, the more sense I could make of others, the more I felt at ease; knowledge is power, but understanding is key.

I have been working in Psychology for over 10 years, having a love for sociology and psychology. I wanted to work with children as an early intervention, to prevent negative later life consequences on the individual, families and society. This led to my Honours Degree in Early Years Education and Childhood Studies.

Here I concentrated on developmental psychology, such as attachment theory, adverse childhood experiences, how children learn, special educational needs (Autism/ADHD), leadership, management and the education system.

Unfortunately, this didn’t serve my purpose and so I studied further, completing a Psychology Masters Degree, along with further training as described below. With webbed thoughts I am able to scaffold information and cross reference theories and science like a computer. I have been able to unite my skills and knowledge across different arenas and deliver a neuro-biological approach addressing the brain and body as one. I am able to look at personalities, looking into both nature and nurture, together identifying areas and issues that may need attention and creating a plan to move forward. This could include overcoming trauma,  understanding how thoughts, feelings and behaviours interlink and using language to help manage relationships. How to engage in safe crucial conversations, set goals, make changes, form habits and break addictions.

Through lived experience, I am able to be transparent, empathetic and build a rapport with my clientele. I believe this is my opportunity to provide a service to those in need. Life coaching works for me as I am able to give support to an array of people with varied issues, on a one to one basis, but also with groups, where I feel we are able to provide therapy and support to one another.
